Mahabaleshwar offers several outdoor activities for the adventurous and leisure seeking travelers. Mahabaleshwar has proper and well maintained roads to every point, so one can also visit the place by car, taxi or even hiring a horse. For a leisurely vacation in Mahabaleshwar, just move down to the market and drink coffee and fresh fruit juices at the cafes located roadside. Go for admiring the seasonal flowers in the park and amble off on the mountains. As you drive short from the town, there is the beautiful Venna Lake which is a popular picnic spot. There you can enjoy fishing, boating, and horse riding & trekking. A nine hole golf course is also present in the town where sports enthusiasts can enjoy playing a round of golf.

Further down the road near the lake neighboring Panchgani are the strawberry fields. You should visit the town during the month of May/ June when strawberries are grown in the fields. Also, they expect that you should buy some of their produce or choose to have some strawberry milkshake or buy some jam products from them.

The buildings in the town are created by the British Empire and present some sophistication to the place. Mahabaleshwar has Mount Malcolm, which was the one time residence of Governor Malcolm. There is Moraji Castle, where Mahatma Gandhi resided in 1945. Another famous building of the town is the Mahabaleshwar Club where people meet to pass on their time with a cup of coffee even today.

In the route to the Babington point, you will come across the Dhom dam which is a great place to enjoy with family. You can also visit the Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and the Panchganga Mandir that contain the springs of five rivers namely Koyna, Venna, Savitri, Gayatri and Krishna. Mahabaleshwar Temple is also located in the Old Mahabaleshwar and is admired for its Swayambhu Lingam.

Pack up your shopping bags and fruit baskets and head towards the town bazaar which is one of the spontaneous bazaars for shoppers. The town bazaar is also called Malcolm Peth after the name of the British Governor of Bombay, Sir John Malcolm. Roam around and shop for fresh honey, canned jams which are made from strawberries, raspberries and mulberries that are freshly grown in the farms around.

Connaught peak is a perfect mixture of adventure and beauty providing the visitors with a number of sports activities like trekking. The peak was initially named as Mount Olympia and then was renamed as Connaught peak after the name of the Duke of Connaught who once visited this spot. When the Duke of Connaught visited this place, he could not keep him away from falling in love with the breathtaking beauty it offers. Connaught peak is the second highest peak in Mahabaleshwar and has a height of about 1400 meters. This point offers some scenic views of the valleys as well as vistas.

Trekking is a great fun at this place, as you can enjoy majestic views of the nearby sightseeing points. This point provides the visitors with a clear view of the Pratapgad Fort, Krishna Valley and Venna Lake. Kamalgadh, Ajinkyatara and Rajgarh are also visible from this peak. Arthur Seat is the queen of all points and is located at a height of about 340 meter. The point is surrounded by the deep Savitri gorge on one side and with a green plateau on the other. Arthur Seat has been named after Arthur Mallet, who is said to have spent here some time after losing her wife and children in an accident in Savitri River. The point delivers a spectacular view of the arrangement of rocks and makes for a good place for trekking purpose.

Kate’s point is actually a huge rock which is about 50 meters high and is named after the daughter of Sir John Malcolm, the founder of Mahabaleshwar. This point offers for a beautiful view of the Krishna valley along with the deep water of the Dhom Dam, which is one of the most popular dams near Mahabaleshwar. Kate’s point lies at 1,290 meters above the sea level. On going down from this point, the intersection points of Vedganga and Krishna River are crossed with the Balkawadi and Dhom valleys.

Boating in Mahabaleshwar

Go visit the Venna Lake in Mahabaleshwar where you can ride on paddle or a rowing boat by hiring one. On the edge of the Venna Lake, a boathouse can be availed at a rent of Rs 180 per hour while pedal boats are available after paying for Rs 200 per hour. This Lake is a beautiful one and is one of the biggest attractions in Mahabaleshwar.

Cycling is another option for experiencing adventure in Mahabaleshwar but you should be careful of the speeding traffic on the outskirts. A bike can easily be hired at a fare of Rs 50 per day from Vasant Cycle Mart located in the Street Main Road.

Parasailing at Mahabaleshwar

At a distance of eighteen kilometers from Mahabaleshwar lays the hill station of Panchgani which is also very well known to the tourists. This hill station is a frequented hill station and an ideal place for trekking, biking, hiking and parasailing. The parasailing can be experienced on a vast plateau which is actually the second highest in Asia and about 4.5 km long after the Tibetian plateau commonly known as the “Tableland”. 
 
Parasailing consists of a parasail which is like a parachute and is attached to a 300 meter long towrope pulled by a speeding transport. The parachute will rise taking the pilot up in the air as the speed will rise to beyond a stalling speed. Parasailing consists of two variations associated with it, a terrestrial one and an aquatic variation. With these a jeep is basically used on the ground while a motorboat is used in water. Parasailing is easier to learn in comparison to paragliding and is much safer.
