Mahabaleshwar is well connected to and is easily accessible from other major cities in India through roadways, railways and airways. Mahabaleshwar does not offer adequate parking facility for the vehicles of the tourists. Most of the vehicles entering the city from outside can be seen parked road side. However, there is a small parking space located near the S.T. bus stand facilitating the owners of vehicles as a taxi stand, horse stand and parking stand. One more parking space is situated at the Aram Chowk in the city. Both these parking spaces are not enough to provide the parking facility to a number of vehicles entering the city.

A parking space can also be found near the Venna Lake. However as the extension work for this lake is in progress the parking space could be shifted soon. Currently, the first need of Mahabaleshwar town is parking space. Vehicles which enter the congested areas in the town have no parking facility.

According to the administration of the town, atleast two parking lots are essential at the two ends of Dr. Sabne road. One should be near Poonam Chowk and the second one should be provided near the Aram Chowk.

As the town is a famous tourist spot, a number of tourist buses also visit Mahabaleshwar. This creates a need for separate parking space for these buses. Also, a parking space for taxis should be provided along with a horse stand.  

In order to control & regulate the traffic at Mahabaleshwar some traffic regulations are prepared by the collector of the town. These regulations have been prepared in exercise of the powers conferred under section 115 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 with Government in Home Department’s Notification No. MVM – 0581/ CR – 1061/TRA – 02, dated 19th May 1990. Above said regulations have been notified in Maharashtra Government Gazette dated 8th May 2008 with Notification No. DC/2/Kavi/1827/08, dated 1/05/2008. These regulations will be implemented by the Municipal Council & Police Department jointly.
